 Hong-Seung Yoon's "RESET"

Hong-Seung Yoon's "RESET"

A movie review by Dennis D. McDonald

This is certainly a fun movie. We watch as the main character played by Ying Ma goes back in time repeatedly to rescue her young son from murder at the hands of hired kidnappers.

The plot is fairly typical time travel fare and makes little sense at times. Ying Ma is on screen almost constantly. She plays multiple versions of herself due to the wormhole technology she developed that makes time travel possible.

My only real complaint about the movie is that it centers on violence against children. The chief motivator of the main character played by Ying Ma is to rescue her young son from murder. This is bound to make many parents feel uncomfortable. It certainly did me.

Nevertheless, it’s a fun ride if you’re willing to suspend disbelief. The characters are interesting, the action sequences are certainly well produced although predictable, and the resolution is reasonably and emotionally satisfying although overly sentimental. Set design and near-future technology are impressive even if nonsensical. While the Americans are the “bad guys” in this film we have come to expect that in many Asian films. At least here responsibility for evil is fairly well distributed. Recommended.
