Wes Anderson's THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX

Movie review by Dennis D. McDonald

This is a very funny and beautifully produced piece of whimsy. The characters are interesting, the story is clever, the dialog is witty, and the voice performances are superb.

There is no pandering, no “cute,” no crudeness, and no fart jokes. It’s as if Wes Anderson is channelling the best of author Roald Dahl, Edward Gorey, Wind in the Willows, Edwin O’Connor’s Benjy, and Chicken Run. But Anderson’s sensibility is at work here as well, as is plain to see when comparing this with the director’s previous films.

This is a remarkably accessible film as well. It should appeal to viewers of all ages. I’m impressed as well as entertained.
