Jerry Seinfeld's "UNFROSTED"
Review by Dennis D. McDonald
I never watched SEINFELD so a Seinfeldian approach to comedy is pretty much lost to me. I did hear a radio interview with Seinfeld recently where he talked about his approach to comedy and that intrigued me, so I watched UNFROSTED.
There were a few laughs but mostly what I saw was an overproduced mishmash of sketches loosely tied together by unconvincing comic performances, overly broad and overly loud.
I assumed going in that there would be no semblance of reality and that was borne out by watching. I was offended by a comedic reference to the death of astronaute Gus Grissom, which I feel is unforgivable. That's like making fun of the CHALLENGER disaster. Are the three writers really so insulated from normality that they thought that would be funny?
I did like Jerry’s little yellow station wagon. I remember when I was little my dad went out shopping for a new car and came back test driving a Corvair. My mom tore his head off. “What do you mean a Corvair! You have 4 boys!” she yelled. Based on that, on a 1-10 scale I’d give this show a 4. You’ve been warned.
