Sam Raimi's "DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS"

Review by Dennis D. McDonald

Almost against my better judgment I really enjoyed this film. The annoying quips of so many other Marvel films are down to a tolerable level. Also, despite my not being that much of an MCU fan, the story — pursuit of a magic something-or-other before the bad guys get it — is simple enough to understand despite constant MCU fanservice.

What we have here is an effectively managed interplay of different timelines and character versions as Strange tangles with Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch across the different versions of the multiverse. Along the way there’s a ton of gorgeous eye candy to enjoy that must kept hundreds of artists and computer techs employed.

At the end of the day this is a popcorn movie the highest order. An extraordinary amount of talent and other resources have been devoted to creating it.

I do wonder, in our almost-post-pandemic world, how often such films will be created in the future. While this film is fun I do wish such resources were also being devoted to creating more personal and emotionally engaging films.
