Goodbye, MoviePass

Goodbye, MoviePass

By Dennis D. McDonald

I finally cancelled my wife's and my MoviePass subscriptions. We already have tons of movies available via Netflix and Prime plus pay per view services like iTunes and Vudu. Then there is the fantastic Kanopy service made available through our public library which provides access to many international films, documentaries, and Criterion releases.

Theater going for us is a "special" experience. Problem is, almost all the new movies were blacked out by MoviePass and it has been impossible to find movies through MoviePass we wanted to see together. I documented our experience in searching for movies here.

Goodbye, MoviePass. It was fun while it lasted. I like the “all you can eat” model for media access not just for the pricing but for the simplicity. Problem is, MoviePass became an “occasional snack if you can find it” plan.
