Stephen King's END OF WATCH

A book review by Dennis D. McDonald

I was sorry to reach the end of this third novel in Stephen King’s “Bill Hodges“ trilogy. King’s characters and plots continue to fascinate me. His ability to propel a story along coupled with his skill in painting word pictures about characters and conflict are amazing.

At the same time his contemplations about fear, longing, regret, and friendship reveal a mature and experienced writer at the height of his powers.

As terrifying as the people and situations are in this and the other Hodges novels , the straightforward depiction of how the characters deal with outrageously evil events is strangely human and reassuring. Hopefully, people like Bill Hodges and Holly Gibney actually exist in the real world.

Special kudos to Will Patton who performs the novel in the audio version. His reading is superb and well worth the time to listen.
